Hello,

This is a reminder that tomorrow and every Thursday for the rest of the school year, will be a bit of a challenge when it comes to traffic during morning drop off due to the late start at Bear Creek High School.  Last Thursday went much smoother than we anticipated and we appreciate everyone being patient and respectful.  As usual, our school start times are as follows:  7:50 - 8:10 - Soft Start (all students may enter the building during this time). Middle school students (grades 6-8) start their day at 8:00 am and elementary students (KG - 5th grade) start at 8:10 am.  For the next 2 weeks, we will be excusing 1st period tradies until 8:30 am as we all adjust to Traffic Thursday.

Thanks in advance for your continued support,

Christian Kingsbury

Principal, BCK8

Hello Bear Creek K-8 Families,

The new school year energy at BCK8 is amazing and I hope your students are transitioning well into their daily school year routine.  Since the school year is so new, here are a few upcoming things you should be aware of:

  • Beginning this coming Thursday and continuing through the remainder of the school year, Bear Creek High School is using a late-start schedule.  On Thursdays, the school day at Bear Creek High School starts at 8:00 am.  This is also the time that Bear Creek K-8 middle school starts and Bear Creek K-8 elementary starts at 8:10.  We are very worried about the traffic congestion for Thursday morning. As we get used to this situation, we will be excusing kids who are late because of the traffic on Thursday’s only.  Please plan ahead and please be patient and respectful.
  • We are intent on growing our Watch Dog program.  Please consider signing up for a day, half-day, or even an hour.  Here’s a link to the Watch Dog SignUpGenius. Watch Dogs simply keep our school safer and deepen the connections between school and community.  We’re having a Watch Dog pizza party (in conjunction with our SAC and PTA meetings) the evening of Tuesday, 9/10/19, 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.
  • The School Resource Officer that serves Bear Creek K-8 is Agent Jason Ezell.  Agent Ezell is a 20 year veteran of the Lakewood Police Department and has been a serving as a School Resource Office for about a year. Agent Ezell serves six schools in our community but until now he hasn’t had an office in any of those schools.  This year, Bear Creek K-8 is honored to have Agent Ezell housed in one of our offices within the main office.  You will see Agent Ezell and his patrol car throughout the day at our school.
  • This year we have added a Campus Security Supervisor to BCK8.  His name is Brad Trujillo. Brad has been an assistant coach on the Bear creek wrestling team for the last 12 years and he has served at-risk youth for the last 20 years.  Brad grew up in Salida, Colorado and we are honored to have Brad join our Bear Creek K-8 team.
  • At BCK8 safety is our number one concern and we are working hard to find new ways to keep our students, staff and building safe on a daily basis.  Please remember to always bring a government issued ID with you whenever you are coming into the school.  We are unable to release any students or allow access to students without an ID. Also, we are unable to pull kids out of class before your ID has been checked in our student information system known as Campus.  Please do not call and ask for your student(s) to be pulled from class prior to your arrival.  There are no exceptions.
  • In an effort to limit end of day disruption both in our main office and in our classrooms, there will be no early release of students after 2:30 pm. Please plan accordingly.
